Be Still!

It's Sunday again and looks kind of chilly out this morning. I'm the only one up at my house....Jose was up for a while but gave it up to go back to sleep and even Kramer is sleeping in this morning! I just sitting here plucking away at the keyboard and watching the early squirrels out the window. Not much on my mind today, I've been listening to the tv preachers...some of them are pretty good actually.... Ed Young just gave his Yes/No message a while ago. It was about how we need to learn how to say Yes to God and No to our sinful desires. We all know what those are. Or do we? Did you know that we can get caught up in our daily goings-on so much to the point that we don't even hear when God is talking to us! Our jobs, our friends, the computer, the phone, tv, music and even church can distract us from what God is telling us what we should be seeking! His word would tell us to be still and know that HE is God. BE STILL. Wow! That's a tough one....we all like noise it seems, whether it be the tv or just yakking on the phone to someone. I think we actually fear silence because in the silence we have to listen to God! Could we be avoiding his voice? I don't know about you, but I want to hear Him and be aware of what He's telling me. After all, He's all-knowing and wiser than we can ever imagine!
The guy whose's preaching right now just said we can't hear when someone is speaking to us if we don't shut up and listen! Ouch! Could that be the problem? Are we so caught up in our plee to God about what we want and what we would have Him do for us, that we don't listen to what He's doing for us right now and that He blesses us every single day and that even though we go through bad stuff He brings us up out of the valleys and allows us His mercy and grace. So maybe we should start thinking about what He has given us already and not so much about what we think we have to have or what we are going to get and just thank Him for being Who He is and what He has done!
In all the noise of everyday life and even the noise of your thoughts just remember to listen for God's voice..........you may have to shut up yourself and tune out all the junk that surrounds you.........but you'll be glad you did because His voice, be it quieter and smaller that any other will be a comfort and will give you peace of mind.
The clock tells me that it's time to get ready for church. I hope to see lots of folks there this morning and I hope that one of them will be you! Have a great Sunday and a good week ahead and I'll catch you all another time!

Hey there! My Sunday was terrific. The Lord is good and it is wonderful to be with God's people.

I have been so busy lately with youth ministry and such, I haven't been posting. Tonight, I fell asleep watching a movie, but afterward I got on the computer and here I am visiting all my favorite places and posting. Just wanted you to know I haven't disappeared.

Take care. Have a wonderful day tomorrow.

Don't know what went wrong, but I tried to post to this entry quite soon after you published it; and it didn't take the first time ...

Here I go again!

I love the "Be still and know I'm God" passage, encouraging our full receipt of reassurance, regeneration and ongoing practice of waiting on things hoped-for-not-yet-seen.

As I watch this "War on Terror" I desperately wish that this so-religious American administration had the faithful dignity and humility of King Jehoshophat (who perhaps lacked wisdom in his choice of friends, but had the unerring skill of *listening in faith*):

"... Jehoshaphat assembled his army. But God had told him they wouldn't have to fight — so the army was led, not by the bravest soldiers, as was customary, but by the temple choir! They marched to meet the enemy, singing praises to God. As the enemy heard the army of Judah approaching them, singing, they were thrown into confusion. The three armies began bickering with each other, then killing each other. By the time Jehoshaphat's army reached the battlefield, there was no sign of a single survivor."
